Blogger Scene

Hey guys! The past two weeks have been crazy busy, as in I'm barely sleeping. It's official, I'm like a real adult now, with a job, who complains about traffic and dreams about going to bed at 8pm. Thursday night I was able to take a little time for myself and I attended Blogger Scene. If you are a DMV blogger NEED  to attend Blogger Scene. These events were created by bloggers Ashley of Ashley In DC and Natalie and Erika of The Fashionably Broke. They're parties where bloggers can network and socialize. I love going to these events, there is such a great vibe and so many well dressed bloggers! I don't know how times I thought "I wonder where they got that?"

They had a panel discussion made up stellar bloggers and Youtubers. Melanie of The Pretty Little Blog, Sarah of Fifty Two Thursdays, Meg of Meg Biram and Claire of Claire Ashley Beauty. I learned so much from them and can't wait to grow Truthfully Yours, Dahlia. Stay Tuned!

Also plot twist, I vlogged some of the night! It was great. Pics and videos from the night below.

Dots By The Number

Hello wonderful humans! It's Thursday? This week went by fast, but no complaints here. Today I've got an OOTD with some pretty rad pants. Old Navy honestly hit the jackpot with their pixie pant! I plan on buying 5 more and living in them. Yes, you heard right. LIVE. They are so comfortable yet nice enough for work. They come in a million prints and colors. When I saw the polka dots, it spoke to me and I immediately grabbed them because there was a lady next to me eyeing them. No shame. Try these pants on and you will understand.

Ladies, Take Care Of Yo Self

Hello wonderful humans! Are you aware that this month is Woman's Health Month? Well it is! Ladies it's so important that we take great care of ourselves. We only have one body and one life to live, so treat your bodies well. Whether it be eating healthier, taking daily walks or drinking more water. I have recently added multi-vitamins to my everyday routine plus additional calcium vitamins since my calcium intake isn't the best. I aim to go for a jog at least 3 to 4 times a week right after work and I'm trying really hard to put the diet coke down and grab for a water more often. The diet coke addiction is so real.

Another important aspect of women's health is immunizations and routine check ups. Now I'm not going to lie, I didn't exactly know what check ups I'm suppose to have and when. Does anyone else feel that way? If so, there is a solution! Thanks to the great people of Oscar Health they've made the perfect roadmap for us ladies so we stay on track. This cute little graphic is great to put on your fridge or in your bathroom. Follow this and we'll be in tip top shape in no time! They also use tech to help woman stay on top of their health, like their health personal timeline that shows their entire health history right within the Oscar app to know what check-ups they need and what ones they've already gotten! Check them out here.

I hope this was helpful!
Happy Women's Health Month!

Catch Me If You Can

Good Morning wonderful human beings! Happy Monday! Why am I so chipper at 9am? Because I told myself to. Honestly! If you decide every morning that you are in a good mood you will be happier ;)

If you're not happy, fake it till you make it and soon you'll believe you are. Also my new bangin Monday playlist is putting me in the best mood! Play this the moment you wake up and I guarantee you'll be smiling and having impromptu dance parties throughout the day. Listen to my "Monday...I <3 You" playlist here

As you're listening to this playlist, I think it's time we catch up. As you can probably tell, for a month or so I haven't been as present on this blog and social media. I promise, I can explain.

I GOT INTO GRAD SCHOOL| Yes, your girl is going back to school! I can't wait for this new adventure. I really wanted to go to grad school right after undergrad last year, but I decided it was best for me to take a year off and get some work experience, then go back. I was a little disappointed about taking the year off but it was honestly one of the smartest things I could have done. I've had so many amazing opportunities and met wonderful people who have supported and guided me along the way. You know who you are and I want to say...Thank You.

I TURNED 23| I turned 23 on April 15th. When people ask my age I still tell them i'm 22. Clearly I'm not use to age change yet. Maybe next year, right? I spent my birthday with my family, and that weekend I had a birthday brunch with friends at the Madhatter. It was delicious! Thanks for the recommendation Bitches Who Brunch. Bottomless mimosa's, spinach artichoke dip, chicken and waffles, and more mimosa's. With happy stomachs we waddled to Georgetown to do some shopping. It was honestly the best week ever.  That rest of that week was insane with work, hence why I blogged like once...
Birthday flan, yum! Necklace is from Rocksbox- Get your first box for free with the code: dahliabff

Delicious chicken & waffles from the Madhatter. Mimosa not pictured because it was being refilled ;)

I'M APART OF THE DSLR FAMILY| My family blessed me with a DSLR for my birthday. I cried, like a lot. It was such a surprise that I didn't know what to do with myself! It's a EOS Rebel T5, and she's beautiful. I'm so excited to take amazing photos and make some new video content for this blog! With this new camera I can create the content I've been dreaming of since I started this blog. So stay tuned! Some really fun and new things shall be coming in the next few weeks!

Messing around with the camera.

Selfies with a DSLR, ehh why not?

I GOT A NEW JOB| I got a big girl job! It's a 9 to 5 and I love the work I do. I've been there for almost a week now and I couldn't be happier.

Relay Foods Review

Hey friends! Today we're switching it up! I am going to share my experience with an awesome company called Relay Foods. What is Relay Foods? Only the best concept EVER. Shop for local and organic groceries online and have them delivered to your front door or pick them up at one of their pickup locations. This is a lifesaver for those weeks where you're super busy (or lazy) and don't have the time to go grocery shopping. Their site is super easy to navigate. See something you want? Just click add to cart and add the quantity! I guarantee in a matter of five seconds you'll have like 20 things in your cart. All their food are from local producers, which I love! Why buy produce that's traveled thousands of miles when you can purchase it in your own backyard. You know exactly where food is coming from and in my opinion that's pretty awesome.

I could not have choose a better time to use Relay Foods. Last week was insane! With my birthday and work and I did not have the energy nor the time to go to the store. So I placed my order of kale, yellow onions, mushrooms, croutons, pizza dough, Italian Cheese and blood oranges (I was curious). My fridge and pantry weren't completely empty so I decided to make due with what I had and add a few things.

Now as you all know I'm a kale fanatic. Kale smoothies, juice, salad and chips are my jam. Feeling a little unhealthy from all the birthday festivities I decided to make a kale caesar salad, with grilled chicken and mushroom parmesan flatbread. I threw on my Spotify playlist and got to cooking, I might have burned myself with the oven but hey, no pain no gain aka food. Here are the results...

Kale

Parmesan Flatbread

2 bushels of kale
Kale 3 cloves of garlic
1/3 cup of extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Pinch of red pepper flakes
10 turns of black pepper
1/3 cup of grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup of crushed croutons

  1. Wash and dry kale
  2. Chop kale into tiny pieces, put in a bowl and set aside
  3. In a smaller bowl crush garlic and add lemon juice, salt, pepper and red pepper. Once everything is mixed together slowly whisk in the olive oil.
  4. Then take your dressing and add to you cut up kale and massage with your hands. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. After 30 minutes or so remove the kale from the fridge, add the parmesan and crushed croutons and toss together.
  6. Add some extra parmesan on top for garnish! (optional)
     FIN-

MUSHROOM PARMESAN FLATBREAD(source- my life as a mrs.)
Flatbread 1 pound of pizza dough
8 ounces of thinly sliced baby bella mushrooms
1 onion
4 cloves of garlic chopped
3/4 teaspoon of salt
Fresh cracked black pepper
3/4 a cup of shaved parmesan cheese (I used an Italian blend)
flour for dusting
Olive Oil
2 teaspoons of cornmeal

  1. In a skillet heat up some olive oil and sauté the garlic, onion and mushrooms. When soft remove from the pan and place on a paper towel lined plate so they can drain.
  2.  Preheat your oven to 475 degrees. Then roll out your dough into three equal pieces. I could't find my rolling pin so I used a glass cup.
  3. I also don't have a pizza stone so I lined a cookie tray with some parchment paper and sprinkled some cornmeal on top so the dough didn't stick. Place all three pieces on the tray and bake for 2-3 minutes, poking it with a fork as it start to bubble. Then flip and bake the other side for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove the bread from the oven and change the oven setting to broil. Drizzle a little bit of olive oil on the bread and add the mushroom mixture and cheese. Cook until brown.
  5. Then try not to burn your mouth as you stuff your face with this deliciousness
     FIN-

So with the code listed below you will be able to get $30 off  your first order (must be over $50)!
